Purpose
To recognize outstanding contributions of those business or community organizations in California whose primary role or function is non-educational in nature, but who, nonetheless, have made a significant contribution to the development of adult literacy.
Rationale
By granting this award, California Reading Association seeks to acknowledge the extent to which we, as educators, depend upon the support of business and community organizations to further the goals of a literate society. Adult literacy projects invariably affect the lives not only of the adults enrolled in the literacy programs, but also dramatically influence the lives of that individual's family members. With the increasing awareness of the needs for literacy links comes the responsibility of professional organizations such as CRA to identify and highlight successful programs which work as partners with education.
Eligibility
Any business or community organization in California whose primary role or function is non-educational in nature may be nominated. Those nominated shall have made a significant contribution to the development of adult literacy.
Criteria
The nominee's contributions to adult literacy resulting in the formation of a partnership between educational and non-educational entities shall serve as the criteria for giving this award.
Award
The recipient will receive a plaque at the CRA Conference and will be honored at the appropriate conference function.
Procedure
Each local council, and each voting CRA Board member, may submit one nomination by:
- Filling out the Nomination Form provided by the Citations and Awards Committee.
- Writing a letter in support of the nominee which describes how the nominee meets the criteria
After reviewing all nominations, the Citations and Awards Committee submits the name of the proposed recipient to the CRA Board. The CRA Board is the final authority in the selection of the Adult Literacy Partnership Award recipient.
