Esther Mack Scholarship Award

Purpose
To provide a scholarship enabling a candidate to pursue a Master's or Doctoral degree program in reading or a closely related field. The award was established in 1982 to honor the late Esther Mack, the first president of the California Reading Association.
Eligibility
Any person who is enrolled in a Master's degree or Doctoral degree program in reading or a closely related field.
Criteria
- Enrollment in a Master's degree or Doctoral degree program in reading or a closely related field.
- Demonstrates excellence as a teacher of disadvantaged children.
- Demonstrates academic excellence.
- Demonstrates financial need as certified by the local reading council.
Award
Recipients will:
- Receive a check in the amount of $500.00.
- Be honored at the annual CRA Conference.
Procedure
Each local council and each voting CRA Board Member may submit one nomination by:
- Filling out the nomination form.
- Writing a letter in support of the nominee which describes how the nominee meets the criteria.
- Providing an up-to-date resume on the nominee's background, education and professional experience.
After reviewing all nominations, the Citations and Awards Committee will submit the name of the proposed recipient to the CRA Board. The CRA Board is the final authority in the selection of the Esther Mack Scholarship Award recipient.
