CRA Hall of Fame

Procedure

  1. The CRA Executive Committee solicits and receives nominations from members of CRA. The nomination form will ask for supporting documentation for the criteria listed below.
  2. Nominations will be submitted to the Executive Committee which makes final selection(s) at the May Executive Committee meeting.
  3. No more than three people will be inducted in any given year.
  4. People may be inducted posthumously.
  5. Inductees will be honored at the annual CRA Conference at the Reading Hall of Fame Address.
  6. Inductees may be former CRA Award winners (e.g. Marcus Foster, John Martin, etc.).
  7. Inductees (or a representative if inducted posthumously) will receive an appropriate remembrance of the occasion.
  8. Inductees may be invited to present the Hall of Fame Address at the annual CRA Conference.

Selection Criteria

The inductee to the California Reading Hall of Fame shall have demonstrated lasting contributions in any or all of the following:

  • Extraordinary SERVICE to local reading councils and to the California Reading Association.
  • Outstanding DEDICATION to the cause of literacy.
  • Effective LEADERSHIP in the field of reading/language arts.
  • Recognized SCHOLARSHIP by professional peers; and
  • She/He has served as a MODEL, inspiring those who follow.

Service

This service could take the form of council or CRA leadership, or it could be in terms of supportive help to councils, such as having served as a frequent and inspirational speaker.

Dedication

There are those educators who are effective and committed, but are not necessarily dedicated. An inductee must have demonstrated dedication to children, teachers, and the profession.

Leadership

This could be in the form of council (either local or state) leadership or it could be leadership in terms of scholarship and research.

Scholarship

Inductees may have demonstrated scholarship through creative research and inspired writing.

An Inspiring Model

An inductee must inspire and motivate others by serving as a model educator and/or leader.
