Nancy Whisler Memorial Scholarship

Purpose

To provide a scholarship for one teacher-in-training which will enable him/her to experience the benefits of attending the CRA Conference and provide monetary encouragement for their professional growth.

Eligibility

Enrolled in an approved teacher training program in California.

Criteria

  • Grade point average of 3.5 or better in educational preparation courses.
  • Two letters of recommendation by professors, supervisors, or master teachers (1 page; maximum 200 words).
  • Evidence that the teacher-in-training effectively employs cooperative learning in one classroom. May include but not be limited to photographs, use of portfolio, videotapes, student work, etc. Please note: materials will not be returned.
  • Personal statement on the meaning of "Partnerships in Literacy" (not to exceed one page; maximum 200 words.)

Award

Recipients will:

  • Receive $500.00 toward expenses.
  • Receive complimentary registration at the next CRA Conference.
  • Receive complimentary registration for all the special functions at the CRA Conference.

Procedure

  1. Complete the nomination form which must be signed by a local reading council officer.
  2. Complete other necessary criteria.
  3. Attach a current resume.
