Membership Information

Benefits of CRA Membership

Your membership provides you with valuable literacy opportunities, which include:

  • Receiving a professional journal, The California Reader, published quarterly and mailed directly to your home as an active CRA and local council member.

  • Receiving reduced member rates at the annual CRA Professional Development Institute. This staff development event features well-known researchers and educators as well as a rich variety of children's and young adult authors and illustrators. Savings on conference registration far exceed the cost of CRA/local council membership.

  • Becoming part of a local network of teachers and administrators interested in promoting literacy opportunities within their local communities and schools. Some of these activities involve family reading rallies, young writers fairs, mini-conferences, special guest speakers, author and illustrator visits, community service projects like "Books for Babies," and book drives for needy organizations such as women's shelters, juvenile centers, or group homes.

  • The intrinsic reward of making a professional commitment to literacy and literacy activities.
