To recognize a CRA member who has been an inspiring model through service, dedication, leadership and scholorship for the CRA and its councils.
Any CRA member.
The inductee to the California Reading Hall of Fame shall have demonstrated lasting contributions in any or all of the following:
Extraordinary SERVICE to local reading councils and to the California Reading Association. This service could take the form of council or CRA leadership, or it could be in terms of supportive help to councils, such as having served as a frequent and inspirational speaker.
Outstanding DEDICATION to the cause of literacy. There are those educators who are effective and committed, but are not necessarily dedicated. An inductee must have demonstrated dedication to children, teachers, and the profession.
Effective LEADERSHIP in the field of reading/language arts. This could be in the form of council (either local or state) leadership or it could be leadership in terms of scholarship and research.
Recognized SCHOLARSHIP by professional peers. Inductees may have demonstrated scholarship through creative research and inspired writing.
She/He has served as a MODEL, inspiring those who follow. An inductee must inspire and motivate others by serving as a model educator and/or leader.
Inductees may be former CRA Award winners (e.g. Marcus Foster, John Martin, etc.). People may be inducted posthumously.
The recipient will:
Receive an individual plaque at the CRA Conference.
Have his/her name added to the permanent plaque on display in the CRA office.
Be honored at an appropriate function at the CRA Conference.
The CRA Executive Committee solicits and receives nominations from members of CRA.
The nomination form will ask for supporting documentation for the criteria listed below.
Nominations will be submitted to the Executive Committee which makes final selection(s) at the May Executive Committee meeting.
No more than three people will be inducted in any given year.
