Professional Development Lending Library

Attention Council Officers!

  • Do you struggle to retain your members, much less attract new ones?
  • Are you tired of trying to come up with creative ideas for council events?
  • Does the planning for the event often take more time than the event itself?
  • Have you ever wished you could bring in a real expert—someone like Linda Hoyt or Tony Stead? Stephanie Harvey or Debbie Miller? Have you thought it would be fun to have The Two Sisters do a workshop for your council?
If so, read on... We have great news for you! The California Reading Association is very pleased to announce the creation of the CRA Professional Development Lending Library. At last, high- quality, affordable professional development is available all year long, anywhere in the state!

This service, available exclusively to council officers, puts a collection of outstanding professional development DVDs at your disposal. And, we’ve done the hard work of event-planning for you! When you borrow a DVD for a council event, we’ll provide all the support materials needed to make it a great success—a suggested workshop schedule and facilitator’s guide, a flyer you can customize and use to publicize your event, and blackline masters for participant handouts, including a note-taking guide.

What’s available now?

All of our DVDs were selected to meet the needs of teachers in grades K-5, and to support the Common Core State Standards. Our current titles include: CAFÉ in the Classroom and Daily 5 Alive! (The 2 Sisters); Happy Reading! (Debbie Miller, watch trailer); Nonfiction Writing (Linda Hoyt and Tony Stead); Strategy Instruction in Action (Stephanie Harvey and Anne Goudvis); and Time for Nonfiction (Tony Stead). For specific titles and information about each workshop, download our catalog!

Here’s how it works:
  • Reserve the DVD of your choice from our growing collection (download request form).
  • Book as far in advance as possible to make sure your DVD is available when you need it.
  • Send your check for $25, a modest service charge for the support materials and DVD handling costs. (There is no charge to borrow the DVD, although we do require a refundable deposit of $200 for each DVD you borrow, payable with a separate check.)
  • We’ll email all the print resources for your DVD as soon as we receive your check.
  • Within ten days of your event, you’ll receive the DVD by mail.
  • After your event, mail the DVD the next business day, in the preaddressed, post-paid envelope provided, and we’ll return your deposit.
  • You can borrow as many DVDs as you like, as often as you like.
